When We Left Spain

Mi alma te espera
Kon amor.
Kuando salimos de Espanya-
eya mos aborreció.
Ajénos éramos
almas sin patria
y eya sin temor.
Al mar fuimos
kon lágrimas
Ke las espumas
las trago. Una por
una ahí se kedaron.
Mientras mosotros
mos mudamos a las
quatro esquinas
de la tyérra komo
discho Muestro
Senyor.

————————-

My soul awaits
you with love.
When we left Spain
she vomited us out.
We were foreigners
souls without Country
and she without fear.
As we went to the Sea
whose foam swallowed,
our tears-
one by one there they stayed-
while we moved to the four
corners of the world,
as Our LORD foretold
it would be.

Lover

20130611-221058.jpg

You strike the
flame in my heart.

Wild horses couldn’t drag
me away from you’re love.

As Helen was to Paris-
you leave
me feeble
at the knees-

like sun shrouded clouds,
unspeakable beauty.

Follow me,
to love infested waters-
where we can both drown
our passionate Hearts
together.

Like A Thief

20130609-220606.jpg

Behind my house
my neighbor
delicately
tends her garden.

Her labor and
yearly dedication,
to grow lovely flowers
brings me sensual joy.

The rich pink
blossoms and
ruby red roses—
framed by a
yellow lemon tree,
from my back window
every morning—
in a voyeuristic
fringe—
thoroughly
captivates my
imagination.

How can I deprive my senses?

I can’t—I steal
glances,
like a common thief,
enjoying them
as my own.

Summer

20130609-125900.jpg

Bring out the shorts
put away the sweaters
the change in season
is felt as the
temperature rises.

Our children are out
of school and more
voices are heard
in our homes.

There’s something
about warm days
when kids get
tanned and grow taller.

With sandaled naked feet
we receive peripatetic
comfort and additional
toe tans-while watching
our tomatoes grow
up vines springing
from the dark fertile earth.

Ripe and juicy days
spent outdoors
smelling the thick
scented air. A cacophony
of fragrances depending
on where you live
from Blue Bonnets
to lavender.

My favorite is the
damp scent of
grape vines, it’s the
smell of California’s
Mediterranean manna.
When crushed it
brings forth the
nectar of the gods.

Eagle, Globe And Anchor

20130608-131709.jpg

Eagle, globe and Anchor
symbol of the American
fighting Spirit.

The-Esprit de Corps.

Earned by every member
who has gone through
the gauntlet of indoctrination
at San Diego or the
marshes of
Paris Island on the
Eastern shore.

1775 the day of
its inception-
not a finer military
organization
has been birthed.

From the halls of
Montezuma
to the streets of
Fallujah, the battle
is taken to the enemy
full bore.

We remember the fallen
who died not in vain.
Marines who fought in
the trenches of Belleau
Woods, Wake Island and
Corrigador.

Men and women who have
pledged their lives to
protect us from those
who hate our American
way of life.

They fight our Country’s
battles on the air, land and the sea.

We owe them a debt of gratitude.

Thank you US Marines!

Father’s Advise

20130606-010943.jpg

What’s the best piece of advise
a father can give?
Life’s travails interspersed
with love—
It’s a push and pull struggle.

A balance between misery and joy.

There’s
sweetness found in the
voices of
my children.

Them rushing to hug
me after a
somewhat short absence.

Daddy, daddy…
The smell of coffee in the
morning.
A good book.
A smart poem.
Laughter—
finding comedic relief in my shortcomings.
A well kept front lawn.
A heartfelt prayer.
A random act of kindness.
Love, listen please—

I have everything with
the family I’ve been
given; so give me
a hug and kiss before
you say goodnight.

Somedays

20130603-221213.jpg

Somedays are better
than others.
Today was a mixture
of happy and hard.
More of the latter,
makes it tougher.
Do you ever feel
like you want a
certain day to end
quicker?
I did…
