My Words

Understanding the World through words

Words

Words can be said
in a beautiful way,
that’s how I like
to feel,
when reading
a verse or line.

I ask myself,
how can ordinary
language be exalted
and sublime
without feeling
contrived?

It takes
sensitivity
and time-
to produce a
Motif that
coalesces enough
to set a
poetic
mood.

Similar to
an artist-
who’s always trying
to find the right
light to paint
with.

Orphan Child

Bereaved child
of parents past,
made in the image
of The Almighty.

You’ve befriended
my son and
consequentially
befriended me.

In the Scheme of
things,

the ways things go;

We’re honored to
be surrogate parents.

And, stand up
for your cause-

it’s not only what
God commands.
But, what
I desire to do
for you.

Semi-Calado

The weave on my
Panama hat
so intricately
tight, it’s

Delicately interlaced
by master hands.

Montecristi,
is where
the finest
weaving is
done.

The crown has
diagonally patterned
ventilation holes.

It’s a semi-calado;
It lets the hot
air out and the
cool air in.

All of it is
handsomely framed-
by a beautifully
tied

Black
Satin
ribbon.

With a dash
of gold
in the
center bow.

Winds Majestical Voice

20130618-101023.jpg

Shimmering oaks
dance and frolic-
when the song
of leaves are heard.

It’s one sure
way we hear
the winds
majestical voice.

In Louisville

20130617-202917.jpg

In Louisville,
we had a friend.

Nameless-

except for
his bright
red feathers,

Every morning he’d
swoop in,
making his rounds
in our yard.

“Look”,
I’d say-
when I caught a
glance of his
cardinal colors.

Such a festive
contrast while,
dancing happily
from one place to
another.

Whenever he’d
come a’ calling-
all his prancing
gave us
a deep
sense of
joy.

Confederate Cemetary

20130616-110040.jpg

Boys in grey
off to war-
in the autumn
of your days
Like sycamore leaves
you fell.

One by one-
In the valley
Pastures,
such agonizing
despair to see
so many
fair boys
fall.

If not for the
grey tombstones
that mark
your restful
days;

Lined up
row after row;
In perfect cavalry
alignment-

The green grass
of your cemetery
plots
would be
your children’s
playground.
But, alas
it’s not.

Nor ever
will be.

My Soul is Quiet

20130614-161133.jpg

My soul is quiet-
it’s neither peaceful
or fretful, but rather
melancholy.

Somedays are like that,
there is heaviness in
the air I breath.

I wish I could snap
out of it,
But I feel the weight
of the world
on my shoulders-

Though they are broad,
the heaviness at
times, is too
much to bear.

All this is meant
to help me
understand
that I’m a man
with limitations.

And, it’s during those
quiet times,
That I give
my heart-
a little time
to repair.

Van Gogh

(Painting by Van Gogh)

While walking through
a print store,
I was confronted by
Van Gogh’s paintings-

I thought to myself
How they define
a period
in art.

I feel his
strength and
vibe, his
brushstrokes
so full of
life.

There must be
thousands
of prints with his
Sunflowers and
Starry Nights.

So unfortunate,
that
not a penny
was given
to him-
for such
priceless art.

Summer Shade

20130612-184329.jpg

Ever consider the trees?
How green
and magnificent
they are;
during summer-
giving us
there shade.

During fall
the leaves
slowly dissipate,
leaving them barren
through winter.
When everything
seems to die?

Then back again
for spring.
Giving us hope
for new life!

If we could listen
to the trees-
they tell a story.

A lesson in life-

That everything has
a season,
just like the
wise king
described.

Eli, Eli

(painting by Marc Chagall)

Eli, Eli
deke mos abandonáste?
a esta tyerra mos yevastes,
i eya no mos kiere.
kon tristesa mos kedamos-kuando eyos mos sacaron.
I agóra ambulante i abandonádos somos sin Ti!
——————

Eli, Eli
¿Porque nos abandonaste?
A esta tierra nos llevasteis,
Y ella no nos quiere.
Con tristeza nos quedamos-
Cuando ellos nos sacaron.
Y ahora ambulante y abandonados somos
sin Ti!
——————–
Eli, Eli
Why have you abandoned us?
To this land you brought us.
And, she doesn’t love us.
We were saddened,
when they kicked us out.
And now we are left wandering and abandoned
without You!
